Athena’s Obituary
On Thursday, March 11th, 2021 our hearts were broken and our lives were forever changed as we the family sadly announce the peaceful passing of Athena Buckland (nee Wagg) at the Dr. Charles. L. LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques at the age of 94 years. Athena was the daughter of the late William and Florence Wagg (nee Bungay). She was also predeceased by her husband; Thomas Buckland, daughter; Linda Buckland (Roland Strong), father and mother-in-law; Augustus and Phobee Buckland, brothers; Gerald Wagg, Albert Herritt and Harry Wagg.
Athena leaves to mourn with many fond and precious memories her sons; William Buckland and Todd (Erna) Buckland both of Rose Blanche, NL, grandchildren; Sheldon Buckland of Rose Blanche, NL, Paul (Lisa) Buckland of Pasadena, NL, Megan Buckland (David Harnum) of St. John’s, NL, great-grandchildren; Aaron Buckland, Kate Buckland and Lucy Harnum. Athena also leaves behind her brothers; Willard (Theresa) Herritt, Henry (Jocelyn) Herritt both of Rose Blanche, NL, sister; Mabel (Winston) Dominie of Greenwood, NS, sisters-in-law; Marie Wagg of Port aux Basques, NL, Joan Herritt of Rose Blanche, NL and Sylvia Wagg of Port aux Basques, NL plus a large circle of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 13th from 2-5 pm at East Haven Funeral Home Inc. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 14th at 2 pm from St. Michael And All Angel’s Anglican Church in Rose Blanche officiated by The Rev. Canon Jeffrey Petten. Interment to follow at Hillside Haven Cemetery, Isle aux Morts Road, NL. Flowers are graciously accepted or donations in Athena’s memory can be made to the ALS Society of Newfoundland, 3 Herald Avenue, Corner Brook, NL, A2H 4B8. www.alsnl.ca.
