Annie Mae Whitney 19332021

Annie Mae Whitney
1933-2021
The world lost one of its most valuable treasures when Annie
Mae (Ford) Whitney passed away peacefully at home on December 12 at
age 88, after a brief battle with cancer. Annie is survived
by her husband of 65 years and love of her life, Edgar Whitney, in
addition to their children – Gay Blaikie (David) of Hammonds
Plains, NS, Fay Jones (Alan) of Moncton, and son Dale Whitney of
Riverview. Over the years they made homes in Whitney,
Dalhousie, and St. Andrew’s, and eventually settled in
Riverview, NB. In addition to her husband and children, she is
survived by brother Harvey Ford & wife Rita (Stellarton, NS),
as well as many nieces and nephews.
Annie – Nanny to many – was a friend,
caregiver, and mentor to more people than we will ever know, and she
truly had an unlimited amount of love to share with the world around
her. Serving others was Annie’s greatest joy in life, and
the same love she had for her husband and children she shared with all
who knew her. Annie’s incredible energy, her sense of
humour, and her kindness and patience made her incredibly gifted in
working with seniors and especially children with special needs and
she found great joy working as a Teaching Assistant at West Riverview
School for 13 years. With Annie, the cup was never
half-full: it was always overflowing, and her attitude reflected this
daily. Whether she was delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors ten years
younger than her, or working at the Albert County Food Bank, or
helping with the Blood Donor clinic, she was always giving of her
time, making friends along the way.
More than anything else, Annie absolutely loved children and
was always involved in the nursery at Bethel Presbyterian
Church. She was, of course, more than overjoyed when her
grandchildren arrived: Laura (Colin), Bethany, Timothy (Tiffany), and
Katie (David). As happy as “Nanny” was to have her
grandchildren around, they were even happier to have her as a
grandmother – often gloating to other children that they had
the BEST grandmother in the world. Needless to say, when
Nanny’s great-grandchildren arrived (Laura’s
children, Maddy and Jake Richardson), she could not have been
happier.
In addition to her parents, Annie was predeceased by infant
daughter Cheryl, infant grandson James Daniel, brother Hubert, brother
Henry & wife Eugenia, sister Gertrude Whitney &
husband Ernest and sister-in-law Mae Tozer.
