Obituary of ANN HICOSKI
Peacefully and in the company of her daughters, Ann Hicoski (nee Rutrich) passed away March 4, 2021, on her 92nd birthday, at West Park Manor in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband Edmund in 2017 and her sister Mary Gerbery. Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Shirley Stimpson (Ross) and Liz Hicoski (George Waite) and nephews Milan Gerbery, Vladmir Gerbery and niece Nada Kostelnikova.
Ann was born on March 4, 1929 in Humensky, Slovakia. She emigrated to Winnipeg in 1948 where she met her future husband Edmund, who had emigrated from Poland. They were married in 1952 and spent 64 happy years together. They had a deep love for each other which endured to the end. Ann was a generous and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed sharing time with friends and family. Both she and Edmund enjoyed dressing up and going out for an evening of dancing. Together they delighted in outings to visit the family farm, Grand Beach and week-end bus trips with friends from the Holy Ghost. She cherished her family in Slovakia and kept in touch with them.
Ann was an excellent cook and hostess who loved welcoming others for celebrations at her home. She created a family home that was filled love and laughter, and with numerous family pets including cats, dogs and birds. She was an avid gardener who looked forward to the spring and planting her flowers and vegetables. Ann was a long time member of the Holy Ghost Church and The Holy Ghost Fraternal aid Society where she served on the executive council and was recognized with a Volunteer Award for her many years of service.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private family funeral service was held, followed by a burial at Holy Ghost Cemetery where she was buried beside her beloved husband.
The family would like to thank the staff at West Park manor for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of ANN
