Ann Ida Lazear Tarantour Monday March 22nd 2021 avis de deces

We regret to announce the passing of Ann Lazear (née Tarantour) in her 94th year. Ann was predeceased by her beloved partner in life, love and art, Arthur Lazear, whom she first met in Grade 8 at York Street Public School. They were married for over 50 years. Ann was also predeceased by her sisters of blessed memory Selma Tarantour, Sonia Tarantour Pearl, Teena Goldberg and Phyllis Rackow.
Ann’s memory will be cherished by her extended family including children Stuart (Lillian Lazear), Ellen (Sam Gelman), Linda (Murray Greenberg), grandchildren Natalie Gelman, Benjamin Greenberg (Maya Wysokinsky), Amanda (Trevor Smith), Jessica (Joshua Silberg), Elliot and Alisa Lazear and great-grandchildren T.J., Oliver and Caleb. Ann had a warm and very personal relationship with her brothers and sisters in-law and her loving nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to her family, Ann will be remembered by her friends and neighbours in Sandy Hill where she resided with her family for over 80 years.
Ann graduated from Carleton College (now University) in 1949. After many years teaching at Woodroffe High School and a short period at the Ottawa Teachers College, Ann finished her teaching career as the Head of Art at Rideau High School. She was an inspiration to many of her students.
As an artist, Ann held shows with her husband Arthur. Her portrait of Dr. Maxwell MacOdrum is featured prominently in the lobby of the MacOdrum Library at Carleton University. Other paintings by Ann grace the walls of prominent institutions and residences across Canada.
As a patriotic Canadian, Ann was inspired to write a poem to celebrate the Canadian flag which the late Member of Parliament Mauril Bélanger celebrated with a reading on Parliament Hill in 2016. The poem was translated into French and was distributed to public schools throughout the city of Ottawa.
In the summer months, Ann enjoyed her fountain of youth at Blue Sea Lake. There she immersed herself in the healing powers of the water, and painted masterpieces that the family will always treasure. She shared her life experiences and pearls of wisdom through stories, poetry and visual arts. Her influence and legacy will be shared with generations to come.
The family is particularly grateful to Dr. Fan Mo and Dr. Bernard Hurley for the medical care provided. In addition, we thank Ideal Care Givers 4 U for the team of support provided in Ann’s time of need.
