Obituary of Andy Williams
It’s not right, but it’s true…
Andy Williams, The Insurance Guy, Bear, Poohie, passed away peacefully Wednesday August 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family with the incredible care and staff in Palliative Care at the DECH in Fredericton just a few weeks before of his 59th birthday.
Andy was always a strapping lad, born August 21, 1962 to Garth and Gaynel Williams. He played hockey throughout his childhood and university and graduated from St. Thomas University. He then coached boys and girls hockey in the community. Andy was a positive and kind person til the very end, and always saw the silver lining in life. To know Andy was a blessing; he showed his love by teasing those he cared for most.
Andy proudly served the Insurance community for over 35 years. Andy was a successful, award winning Insurance Agent for State Farm and now Desjardins.
Andy was passionate about his friends and family young and old. Andy leaves behind his wife, best friend and business partner Wendy; his loving, compassionate daughter Berni who will continue his business on as a third generation Insurance Agent; his wonderful son and daughter-in-law the chiropractors Dr. Matt (Rudy) and Dr Sarah (SarBear) and his 3 year old grandson, his favourite little buddy and absolute joy of his life Jack; and his little pug fur babies Soph and BoBo. Andy was so proud of his children and grandson and their future. Andy shared a special bond with several kids we call our own. His “dark haired daughter” Ashley Praught, Alysha (Feliche) Manderson, Katie Bishop and Matty McNally. A friend of 56 years – Shawn Lean – thank you for everything. Andy had many friends that were as close as family – thank you all for being such a great help and comfort to us during this difficult time.
Andy always had great ears to listen and was a mentor to many. His special skill was to bring out the best in everyone he encountered. He loved coaching hockey, teaching life skills to young minds, and touched many lives during his forty adult years as a mentor.
Andy also volunteered his time with Hockey New Brunswick, Fredericton Sports Investment and the Nashwaaksis Y’s Men.
Andy loved to travel the world, golf, relax and enjoy the lake life with his family and friends. We didn’t realize at the time we were making so many memories, we just knew we were having fun. So much fun.
Our heartfelt, sincere thanks to the angels among us who have stepped up and supported us in so many ways on this journey. You know who you are. You are cherished.
Very special thanks to the wonderful people from extra mural care, who lovingly looked after Poohie at our lake home.
Thank you to our Team at Andy Williams Insurance, you have been incredible.
Andy would like you to honour his memory by loving your life, loving everyone in your life, and loving yourself.
At this time Poohie would be the first to tell us not to be sad. As he would say, “It is what it is.”
He may be gone from our sight but he will never be gone from our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Four Lakes Seniors Hall (the community centre by Poohie’s lake house on French Lake). Donations can be accepted by York Funeral Home, or they can be mailed directly to Jan Phillips 396-Route 670 Ripples E4B 1E3.
A celebration of life will be held August 21 at The Delta Fredericton 2-4pm.
You can look forward to a golf tournament and scholarships in Poohie’s honour in upcoming years. Raising funds for kids in sport was a passion of his, and we will continue this in his honour.

  1. Andy. It was a pleasure knowing you. You are one of my inspiration when it comes to helping someone out. We had a good year with the Bantam CAPS winning the Atlantic in Corner Brook Newfoundland.
RIP Andy. Your inspiration will continue.
