Andrew “Andy” Beskal
November 28, 1927 ~ December 18, 2021
With heavy hearts and an abundance of warm memories, the family of Andy Beskal, announce his passing on December 18, 2021 at the Victoria Hospital, Prince Albert, SK.
Andrew “Andy” Beskal was born on November 28, 1927 in Cudworth, SK walking 3 miles to school in Cudworth where he got his grade 8. He also stayed after school to learn to read and write in Ukrainian and would read letters to the people in the area and answer the letters from the Ukraine. He did not have to write June exams as he was recommended in all subjects.
The Beskal family moved to Prince Albert when Andy was 13 years old but Andy had a draw back to Cudworth and worked at a restaurant and slept on a table for one week then found work on a farm.
At 15 years old, he was back in Prince Albert driving truck for P.A. Lumber delivering lumber and coal. The Lumber Company seeing his potential helped him get a drivers license as it was in war time.
Andy went to Calgary and worked at a lumber yard, sold electronics and worked at a door factory. At age 22 he was a foreman and worked at the shipyard loading grain at Churchill, Manitoba for two winters.
Andy moved back to Prince Albert and drove taxi for the winter. He owned Diamond Cab and also sold cars for Regent Motors for a while. He bought a truck and hauled rails and fence posts to ranchers in southern Saskatchewan.
On December 5, 1964, Andy married Patricia Ede. Andy bought a few trucks and front-end loaders and hauled topsoil, manure and peat moss for gardens and dug basements.
Andy worked for ferry’s fixing river landings. He worked in the north clearing trees and building roads and pads for Sask-Tel tower sites.
In 1971, Andy bought Trappers Beach at Candle Lake where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and waterskiing until he was 80 years old. He enjoyed dancing at the Minus One and Single Parent dances.
After Andy retired, he was a volunteer for over 20 years. He started dancing at the seniors’ homes in Prince Albert and surrounding towns. He made the arrangements and called all the band members and dancers who where also volunteers. The band was called The Good Time Band.
Andy and Pat enjoyed vacations in Florida, Arizona, Europe and Mexico.
Andy is survived by his wife Pat, brother Dave (Wendy) Beskal, sisters-in-law Cis, Maizy Howrie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Andy is predeceased by his parents, siblings: Bill (Grace) Beskal, Peter (Violet) Beskal, Mike (Ruth) Beskal, John Beskal, Mary (Norm) Beskal, Ann Beskal, Lillian (Louis) LaRocque, and brother-in-law Merrill Howrie.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 28 Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating.
