“It’s not riches, ,possessions, or worldly goods of any kind. It is the way he lived, the lives he touched, the promises he kept, the love he gave… Is the kind of man he was.”
Andrew grew up in Tilton, and after high school, he started work at the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), where he retired after 33 years. Andrew met his wife Jeanne Marie, and together they built their home and settled in Riverhead, Harbour Grace, where they raised their five children. His wisdom, love, support and guidance will continue to live on in his children and grandchildren.
In retirement, Andrew kept busy, whether he was tending to his garden, spending a day in the woods, feeding the birds, keeping up with all the news or visiting and helping his friends and family. Andrew will be remembered for his genuine smile and generous nature. His passing leaves an undefinable mark on all our hearts.
Andrew and Jeanne Marie’s home was always open, and everyone felt welcome. The kettle was always on for tea or coffee with cake or cookies as Andrew had a sweet tooth. Andrew loved his evenings on the front deck, enjoying a cold beer or a glass of screech in hand. Andrew loved a party and enjoyed family get-togethers. The life of the party; a light in any lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He always saw the good in everyone and had a positive outlook, and wished well for all.
Andrew’s pride and joy were his wife, children and grandchildren, and he was always there for them. Whenever the kids were coming home, there wasn’t a doubt that Andrew and Jeanne Marie would be at the airport. While not big travelers, Andrew and Jeanne Marie, visited Whitehorse and Toronto on numerous occasions to spend time with their children and grandchildren.
In recent years, Andrew lived at the Carbonear long-term care facility. While there, Andrew received top-notch care from the staff and met many residents and visitors. The family is forever grateful for the love and care received from his health care team for the past few years.
A gift to this world, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
