Obituary of ANA YAHAIRA BARRIOS
Ana Yahaira Barrios De León suddenly passed away with family by her side on November 14, 2021, at her new home in Winnipeg, at the age of 42.
Ana is survived and lovingly remembered here in Winnipeg by her parents Eva and Jesus Barrios, partner Francisco Hernandez, her two sons Daniel Alejandro and Zion Gonzalez Barrios and their daughter, Natalia Hernandez Barrios.
She also leaves a younger sister, Eva (Evita) Hernandez, brother-in-law, Henry Hernandez, nieces, Karina and Gabriela Hernandez, nephew, Samuel Hernandez and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family who mourn her death in New York and her native Guatemala.
Anita or Yaji, as she was dearly known, was born in Guatemala City in April 1979. She lived with her parents and younger sister until the age of 13. The family moved to New York to reunite with her mother’s extended family. The Barrios De León family has called Winnipeg their home since 1995. Ana went to Dakota Collegiate. She was always looking for ways to help her community and endeavour to new opportunities. She recently worked at 24-7 Intouch, where she was one of the people responsible for the Contact Tracing and the Virtual Call Centre during wave three of the pandemic. Her contribution was felt in all workstreams, and the family has received numerous kind messages of support. It’s been heartwarming to see how her peers and clients respected and valued her dedication and commitment.
Ana embraced Canadian culture and enjoyed camping trips across Manitoba and long road trips East of Canada. There was a special place in her heart for nature and her pets. Although Yaji left Guatemala at a young age, she taught her kids to embrace their heritage and always surprised family and friends with her culinary skills and a keen interest in cooking traditional dishes that she would go out of her way to learn.
The family especially thanks the response received from all donors on Ana’s GoFundMe page. Their contributions and support are tremendously appreciated. The management team and team members at 24-7 Intouch and the Contact Tracing and the Virtual Call Centre at Manitoba Health and Seniors Care – their expressions of respect and admiration for Ana leave a great legacy and have brought much comfort to her kids. A special thanks to Church of the Rock for hosting the funeral service and Cropo Funeral Homes for helping us navigate this very difficult time. Lastly, to the numerous praying groups, Iglesia de Cristo Misionera Manitoba Inc. and our local extended family and friends who have held our hands and our hearts during this sad time.
An in-person viewing and celebration of life service will be held on November 23, 2021, from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Church of the Rock located at 1397 Buffalo Place, followed by her burial at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Avenue.
