Obituary
Alvin Francis Chambers of Wetaskiwin, Alberta passed away at the age of 85 years. Alvin leaves to mourn four daughters, Bonnie, Lori (Kevin), Teresa (Todd) and Diane; five grandchildren, Derek, Sheldon (Amanda), Marshall (Britny), Jordan (KayLynn) and Angie (Harrison) and two great-grandchildren Jayden and Ezra.
Alvin grew up and spent many years on the family farm near Bittern Lake. He also worked for a time at the University of Alberta with the cooling and heating systems for the university. After retiring from the U of A he opened a small mechanic shop in Edmonton – AC Repair.
Square dancing, clogging and camping were favourite pastimes. For many years Dad spent winters in Yuma, Arizona. Trips south for the winter ended after dementia got its hold on Dad which he struggled with until the end.
Some of our fondest memories of Dad are of everyone piling into the orange Ford pickup to go to the local area auction markets, especially on the days when there were free hot dogs and pop. In the winter Dad would take all four of us on the skidoo to meet the bus at the end of the driveway. But his kids and grandkids will always remember that no matter where any of us girls lived, when Dad came to visit us he could always seek out a ‘buffet’ restaurant to take us out for dinner.
Alvin is also survived by brothers, Richard (Marie), Larry (Ardis), Fred and Dennis (Shelly); brothers-in-law, Lorne and Randy; sister-in-law, Helena, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Lila and William; step-mother, Vera; brother, Lyle; sisters, Dolly and Sharon as well as sisters-in-law, Connie and Mary.
A celebration of Alvin’s life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Alvin’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories, (10430 61 Ave NW #306, Edmonton, AB T6H 2J3).
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff in the Long-Term care unit of the Wetaskiwin General Hospital for the care and compassion Dad received while a resident there. A special thank you goes out to Uncle Larry for looking after Dad’s needs in his final years when he couldn’t do so on his own. Your love and dedication are greatly appreciated by each of us girls and our families. You were always there for Dad, even when we couldn’t be.
