Allison’s Obituary
Allison Wayne Foster, age 79, formerly of Berwick, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 30th, 2021.
Allison served as a Field Engineer in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) from the age of 18 to his retirement. He was also a two-time United Nations Peacekeeper.
Allison is survived by his wife, Grace, his children, Allison Jr, Mark, Cathy, Michael; and his grandchildren, Brittany (SB), Josh, Cecily, Jack, Aidan, Kaili, and Jaidin.
He was born on March 4, 1942, to Phoebe and Charles Foster and lived on a working farm for most of his childhood. As an only child, he spent his days pilfering green apples from the family orchard, trekking uphill both ways in 5 feet of snow to school, and raising orphaned animals – all in the company of his beloved bulldog Judy.
At the age of 18, he met his wife Grace, and they went on to marry and have four children together. Over the years, the family lived in military bases across Canada, including Alberta, PEI, and New Brunswick. His career took him to Egypt, Germany, the Netherlands, Nunavut, and beyond. He swam in the Dead Sea, spent time in the Golan Heights, and broke bread with fellow soldiers from around the world.
He loved a good book, a good joke, and a good cheeseburger. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time in nature surrounded by bees, trees, and a gentle breeze. He spent many days paddling along in a canoe, often taking his children on his adventures and teaching them to appreciate and respect the natural world by leaving nothing behind but their footprints.
He is sorely missed and will forever be remembered by his family and friends.
A private funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 7th in Berwick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kings SPCA or the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
