Allan P Young 19332021

Allan P. Young
1933-2021
Allan Young (1933 – 2021) Allan was born at
Twillingate on May 15, 1933 to Allan Sr. And Mary Young. He began his
life work as a taxi driver, then a cook, but spent the major portion
of his work life as a carpenter. He worked at Argentia, Corner Brook,
Tilt Cove and Gullbridge Mines before finally settling in as a
carpenter/maintenance man at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Hospital, for
25 years. While in Tilt Cove Allan would work ‘after hours’ as a
milkman, salesman for Volkswagon and doing concrete work. He loved
working with concrete and contracted work ‘after hours’ and on
weekends until his retirement in 1998.
He dearly loved mummering and the highlight of his life was
when “Land and Sea” did a program about mummering , starring
Allan as “The Mummer Man”. He enjoyed hosting guests at the
Hillside B&B and he also enjoyed hosting the lighting of the
Fish Fun and Folk Festival sign in his garden.
Allan loved travelling to Florida for vacations and on his
return was more than happy so show off his suntan.
After his retirement Allan loved to work in his workshop
– especially making lawn chairs and
birdhouses.
He was a faithful member of the Twillingate Volunteer Fire
Department for 25 years. He was also a member of the Bayview Men’s
Fellowship and always looked forward to the fellowship meetings and
breakfast meals.
In September 2021 Allan moved to the Pleasantview Manor in
Lewisporte. He loved living there and participated in all the many
activities at the Home. Unfortunately, he only got to enjoy three
weeks there before his passing.
He is predeceased by: parents Allan Sr. and Mary Young; wife
