Alfred Poirier
March 11th, 1942 ~ February 5th, 2021
Notre-Dame-de-Kent, NB ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alfred Poirier at his home on Friday, February 5th, 2021, at the age of 78 years.
Born on March 11th, 1942 in Bouctouche, he was the 3rd of 6 children of the late Ernest Poirier and the late Madeleine Poirier born Babineau.
Alfred will be dearly and sadly missed by his loving wife, Gisèle Poirier born Johnson of Notre-Dame; 2 adult children, Roger (Susan) of Brandon, MB and Linda (Darryl) of Shediac, NB; his grand-children, Shawn MacArthur, Kathlene MacArthur, Michelle Poirier and Kevin Poirier; Great Grandchildren, Brooke, Allie and Krista; his Brothers and Sisters, Joseph (Lucie) of Bouctouche, Ernestine Cormier (René) of Moncton, Claudette Chevarie (late Paul) of St-Antoine and Désiré (Alida) of Notre-Dame; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Paul-Emile (Rhéa).
An adventurous person, Alfred left home at the age of 15 for Goose-Bay, Labrador. He didn’t stay very long and made his way to Gagetown NB, where he worked in a kitchen. Not staying very long there either, the next adventure was Toronto, where he joined his brother Joseph and found employment in the construction field. It’s in Toronto that he met his future wife Gisèle, with whom he spent the next 59 years. It’s also during this period that he discovered his trade for life, “Drywall tape finish”. New Brunswick was never far from his heart and in 1969 he decided to move his young family there and settled near Moncton in Notre-Dame, where he quickly became known as the master of the trade. The trade never left him and was an integral part of his life to the end.
In respect of Alfred’s wishes, there will be no visitation, a private Celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to the “Canadian Cancer Society” in the memory of Alfred Poirier. All are also welcomed to post messages of sympathy to Alfred’s Facebook page.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Oncology and Palliative departments of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre as well as the kind care provided by staff within the Extra-Mural department.
