It is with deep sadness that we announce Alfred’s passing after a brave battle with cancer.
Alfred was born in Zeltingen, Germany and immigrated to Canada by ship in 1956 where he quickly cultivated lifelong friendships. After completing training to become a professional baker he enjoyed a 40-year career working for Super Value and Safeway.
Following retirement in 1992, Alfred enjoyed travelling, collecting antiques, good wine, good food, a good game of Rummy and, most importantly, spending quality time with his family and friends.
A life long Catholic, Alfred attended St. Peter’s Parish in New Westminster for nearly 50 years. He also volunteered for many years with St Vincent De Paul Society, helping those in need in any way he could.
A passionate and gifted gardener, Alfred tended a large vegetable garden, as well a myriad of flowers of every type and colour on his property. Alfred had a very keen mind and he focused on learning new things and broadening his horizons every day. Alfred lived his life to the fullest with a quiet dignity and he always chose the high road throughout his journey in life.
Alfred is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Edith Ehses, his children, Samira Allinger (Paul) and Simone Floen (Ron) and his four grandchildren, Maia and Kaitlin Allinger and Tyler and Alec Floen.
In keeping with his final wishes there will not be a funeral service, but donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society to honor his memory. The family wishes to thank the staff at St. Michael’s Hospice for their compassionate care in his final days.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alfred Josef Ehses March 26 1930 – October 11 2021..
