AHN KIM, Jhe Inn
1934 – 2021
Jhe Inn Kim (née Ahn) 1932-2021
On August 24, 2021, Jhe Inn Kim passed away peacefully at Hull Hospital at the age of 89 with her beloved husband of 64 years, Yoon Hwa Kim, her immediate and extended families as well as Pastor Park by her side. Jhe Inn finally passed after years of battling multiple health problems such as Parkinsons, congestive heart failure, and most recently, a fall requiring hip surgery. Dearly loved, she will be greatly missed by her family. She is leaving behind three daughters, Sohee (Raymond), Jeehee (Dana) and Sonia (Dimtcho), one son, David (Susan), as well as grand-children Henry, Zachary, Lily, Liam, Hazel, Harrison and Avery, and many friends including those dating back to her high school years.
Jhe Inn was born in Seoul, South Korea on March 25, 1932. Beauty, intelligence and wisdom combined with a warm and generous nature, attracted people to her, and helped foster and maintain cherished life-long friends. She had a sharp mind for numbers, and displayed an unusual talent for calculating complex calculations quickly in her head. After graduating amongst the best in her school, she was quickly hired by a bank, and then offered a director position at an accounting department at a large newspaper firm – which was unusual for a woman during that time in Korea. She married the love-of-her-life, Yoon Hwa Kim, in 1957 whom she met as a 25 year old nurse serving in the Korean War, and he, a 28 year old first-lieutenant. Together they built a rich and full life; he was a Professor of Mathematics and Fulbright scholar. They immigrated to Canada in 1969 and settled in Aylmer with three daughters, followed by one son born in Canada in 1972.
Like many immigrants, Jhe Inn left her high profile job in South Korea and worked for the Radisson hotel restaurant for over 20 years as a cook. It was a grueling job, where she earned the love, camaraderie and respect of all those who worked with her, all while raising four children. The retirement party was a testament of her popularity and respect that she received from the hotel; the grand celebration party that was organized for her would be fitting for an executive. Timing her retirement with her husband, Jhe Inn embarked on yet another adventurous life of creativity and travel, producing beautiful works of pottery, painting and of course her famous culinary delights and delicious kimchi sourced from their organic garden and many fishing trips to the Gaspé in the Quebec region.
Jhe Inn’s philosophy was “Giving is Loving.” Anyone who entered her home, whether family, friend or a helping hand, was treated like a treasured guest. She loved people and was often given gifts wherever she went. People naturally sensed her loving, pure nature – and she seemed to have a close connection to the divine. She often saw visions of paradise and full light. It was her commitment to spirituality and open heart that made everyone love her, a true angel on earth. She had a strong faith and was a member of the Ottawa Korean Community Church. We would like to thank the Korean Community Church for their outpouring support and love, as well as the Hull Hospital staff who helped during this time.
