HAYWARD-KETCHUM , Norma Barbara
July 31, 1946 – October 5, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and unexpected passing of Norma Hayward-Ketchum on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at her home at the age of 75. She is lovingly remembered by her son, John-Scott (Shannon); granddaughters, Everly and Adelaide; brothers, Elmer, Leonard, Earl, Roy, Allan and Lawrence; as well as many members of her extended family and friends.
Norma was born in Rimbey, Alberta to John and Florence (Weiss) Loyek and grew up on the family farm just outside of Rimbey with 11 brothers and sisters. Norma was caring and compassionate in nature and pursued a career in nursing which was a natural calling for her. Nursing took her to various cities throughout British Columbia and Alberta (Edmonton, Vernon, Lac La Biche and Red Deer) and as far away as Australia and China. She went on to become a Registered Nurse and finished her career as a nurse with Home Care in Red Deer.
Norma enjoyed maintaining the beautiful garden and pond at her home in Poplar Ridge and watching the many birds and wildlife that frequented her yard. She had the gift of hospitality and opened her home to many international homestay and exchange students in addition to becoming the full time caregiver of her siblings with special needs. She was remarkably resilient and had to overcome the tragic loss of two husbands that she loved dearly (Chuck – 1981 and Jim – 2011) but she persevered and continued to have a positive outlook on life. Norma was a devoted Christian, an active member of her church and always maintained a strong faith in God.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at the West Haven Cemetery near Rimbey, Alberta and a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date in the Spring or Summer of 2022.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Norma Barbara Hayward-Ketchum October 5th 2021..
