Judy Robertson (née Allan) was born in Vancouver, B.C., and spent her early years growing up in Kerrisdale with her parents and her younger sister Patricia (Patsy). She had happy memories of day trips out to Crescent Beach and going for fish and chips. Her family later relocated to Calgary, where she loved her singing lessons above all else. Judy graduated from Western Canada High School.
