WINDLE, Joe
—
There is ‘Sorrow in the Wind’ and in our hearts as we share news of the loss of our ‘Beloved‘ John Joseph Windle. Joe passed away on November 16, 2020 at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 64.
Joe is survived by his wife and ‘Ever Lovin’ Woman‘ Valerie, his daughter ‘Jessica‘ (Trevor) Shulist, his two granddaughters Margo and Neko, his sisters Janie Rae (Sonny), Terri (Dave), and Gena Marie (Dave), and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. He was pre-deceased by his mother Gena Thompson and his father Jack Windle.
Much of Joe’s life was spent as a ‘Hurtin’ Albertan‘ living, working, and playing in Calgary prior to 2016 when he ‘Set Out Running‘ to Kelowna. He and Valerie were much loved members at Pinebrook Golf and Country Club. The many special friendships created are a reminder that ‘You’re Still Standing There’. Throughout Joe’s four decade career in oil and gas, he grew and applied his skills in creative thinking, leadership, commitment, and comedy. He was an ardent supporter of the oil and gas industry. Speaking of commitment, Joe kept ‘Truckin’‘ as a Maple Leafs fan until the very end, and at one point experienced the highlight of meeting his idol Johnny Bower. Following Joe and ‘Valerie’s move to ‘Fire Lake‘ in the Upper Mission area of Kelowna, Joe enjoyed many opportunities to hit it ‘Straight Down the Middle’ at Harvest Golf Club, and to finesse his wine tasting skills at local vineyards. Family and friends will forever mourn the loss of Joe’s thoughtful and introspective ways, his sense of humour, and his appreciation for music that permeated everything in his life.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be planned for the post-COVID days – in a nice chapel, with good wine and cheese (no triangle sandwiches), and his thoughtfully curated playlist. Until then, remember to ‘Save Some Time to Dream‘.
‘Forget the Flowers‘, please donate in Joe’s name to the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation, www.dsrf.org. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos, or share a memory please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of WINDLE Joe —..
