Obituary of William John Belding
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William (Bill) John Belding at Mt Cartier Court Extended Care, Revelstoke on Sunday May 24th, 2020 at the age of 89.
Bill was born on May 12, 1931 to Russell and Glenna Belding of Salmon Arm B.C. Bill grew up in the beautiful Shuswap area spending all his summers at his grandparent’s cabin with his siblings. At the age of 16 Bill moved to Revelstoke B.C., where he began a lifetime career with Canadian Pacific Railway on August 25,1947. Bill met Rita in Revelstoke and they were married on July 18, 1950. Shortly after that they moved to Cranbrook, B.C., and together, they raised three children: Bruce, Brian and Janice.
Bill was local chairman and a long-standing member of the Brotherhood Of Locomotive Engineers Division 563 up until he retired from CP Rail on March 1, 1990. After retirement, Bill and his family spent many years and made lots of lifelong friendships at his summer home on Lake Koocanusa. Rita passed away in the fall of 2002 after celebrating 52 years marriage. Bill belonged to many organizations throughout the community of Cranbrook. Bill enjoyed curling, swimming and spending time with his family. Bill later met his second wife Betty. They were married in 2005 and they shared 13 years of marriage untill her sudden passing in 2019. Family meant the world to Bill; he will be truly missed by all who loved and knew him.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife Rita, son Brian, second wife Betty and his brother Fred.
Bill is survived his children Bruce and Janice; grandchildren; Jennifer (Sean), Sarah, Bart, Chad (Sherry), Josh (Shawna), Krystle (Ken); great grandchildren: Matthew, Veronica, Keenen, Taylor, Kaitlyn and Jenaya; sister Joy (Earl), and brother Russ (Mary), as well as sister in-law June, daughter in-law Maureen, stepdaughters Pam, Bev, Jo-Anne and their families and many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s family wish to express special “Thanks & Appreciation” to all the amazing care aides, nurses, doctors & staff at Mount Cartier Court for their kindness, compassion & exceptional care of Bill during his stay with them.
There will be no service at Bill’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill’s memory to The Alzheimer Society of B.C., 300-828 West 8th Ave, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2, or The B.C. Cancer Foundation, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 5L3.
