William “Slim Newman 1939 –

On April 14, 2020, William “Slim” Newman lost his battle with cancer.
Slim was born July 24, 1939, in Lloydminster Saskatchewan. He is survived by his wife, Aileen, children Shane and Heather, grandchildren Kenadie and Carson, brother Russell, sister-in-law Ethel, sister-in-law Janet, sister-in-law Bernice, brother-in-law Tom and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Frieda and Bill Newman, brother Michael, and sister-in-law Pasty.
Slim was very active in sports, playing football, basketball, hockey, baseball and curling. If he was not involved with the games, he watched many of them, both local and professional.
In 1960 he followed his dream, and came to BC, living in Smithers BC. He worked at construction, BC Forest Service, logging and Ministry of Highways, bridge building.
We were married in Smithers and our two children were born there. He liked working with wood, so he built everything from bridges to bird houses.
He eventually transferred to Burns Lake BC, then on to Dawson Creek BC. Also at this time he was involved with rodeos, and started to ride bulls and team rope.
When he retired from Ministry of Highways, he decided we should try fishing. We all enjoyed that, and we continued with fishing.
All his life he collected so many friends. They were all just as important to him as were his family. During the time that we fished at Bridge Lake, he would be involved with some good fishing stories. He fished at Bridge Lake until almost the end.
His journey of life has now been completed. We now hold him dear in our hearts, with good memories.
Rest well, my love.
