Passed peacefully away on Saturday, March 14, 2020, in his 93rd year, Bill Besso, of Holyrood. Predeceased by his parents, James and Helena (nee Davis); his brothers and sisters-in-law: Walter (Mame Taplin), Allan, Raymond (Lucie Marchant), James (Mary Maloney), Michael (Rita Joyal) and sisters: Rose Nelson and Mary House. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; his cherished sister Loretta (Michael) Maloney of Holyrood and brother-in-law Charlie House of Stephenville Crossing, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, members of the Marina Golden Age Club, and several loyal and devoted friends. Uncle Bill spent close to 50 years of his adult life working with Allied Aviation in Gander. When he wasn’t working, he could be found on the Gander River salmon fishing – patiently waiting to catch the “big one.” Upon his retirement, he returned to Holyrood, where he shared his love of salmon fishing with his nephews. Second, only to salmon fishing, was his passion and commitment to gardening. The seeds that were carefully sown inside during the winter months transformed his garden into a riot of color in the summer. His green thumb was the envy of many. His family will remember him for this and so much more. Uncle Bill was a man who loved life, and we loved him. He will be deeply missed. Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at 2:00 pm from Holy Cross Church, Holyrood with cremation to follow. Inurnment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Holy Cross Parish or a charity of one’s choice.
