It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Margaret Klassen, age 91. Verna passed away peacefully on July 16, 2020 in the presence of family. She was born February 28, 1929 in Laird, Saskatchewan to C.W. and Johanna Regier. Verna married Abram Klassen (Laird) in June 1950 and together they started life on the farm in the same area, eventually moving to Saskatoon in 1964. Verna worked at Porteous Lodge until she retired at age 65. After retirement Verna and Abe enjoyed a number of winters in Arizona, square dancing, playing shuffle board, and making handicrafts. As a couple, they loved to sing together, sharing their musical talents at senior’s homes in Saskatoon. They also enjoyed fishing, golfing and making quilts. Verna lived a life of faith and was often found volunteering in her church and for other causes she believed in. She loved spending time with family and friends, frequently playing games, and was proud of the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She continued to live a full and active life until the very end. She will be greatly missed.
Verna is predeceased by her husband Abram, her parents C.W. and Johanna Regier and 13 siblings. She is survived by five children, Marlon (Peggy) Klassen, Regina, SK, Majel (Rob) Vye, Gananoque, ON, Lorne (Cathy) Klassen, Harris, SK, Garry (Shari) Klassen, Saskatoon, SK, and Stanley (Shari) Klassen, Toronto, ON; 20 grandchildren (including spouses); 12 great-grandchildren; brothers Don Regier, Victor (Sarah) Regier, and sister Wilma Dyck, a few remaining in-laws, and numerous nephews and nieces. Plans are being made for a private memorial service at a later date. Donations may be made on Verna’s behalf to Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) or Rosthern Junior College.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Verna Margaret Klassen 2020..
