Thelma Ferguson
1921-2020
Thelma Ada Ferguson, age 98, of Little Harbour, NS, passed
away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Truro, she was a daughter of the late George and Ellen
“Nellie” (Johnson) Baird.
Mom was a loving and compassionate mother, wife and
grandmother. She loved flowers and her gardens, especially her
climbing roses.
Mom graduated from Colchester Academy, Truro before entering
training at the Aberdeen School of Nursing in New Glasgow. She
graduated with her RN in 1944 and worked in both the Old Aberdeen and
New Aberdeen Hospitals. Mom also did “Specialized” private
duty nursing for a number of years prior to becoming a full-time wife
and mother. She was a member of the Little Harbour Presbyterian
Church, and was a former member of the Ladies Aid, AMS and Little
Harbour Community Center.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Ferguson, her twin sister,
Whilma MacCallum, sister, Betty MacNeil, brothers, Munro, Bert and
Carson Baird, and daughter-in-law, Catherine (Walsh) Ferguson. She is
survived by sons, Robert, Little Harbour; James, Saint John, New
Brunswick; grandson: Ryan; granddaughters: Carly, Ashley, Katelyn and
Jennifer (Bill) Jeffers; great grandson, Wyatt Jeffers and great
granddaughters Haley Jeffers and Bridgette
Ferguson.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Highcrest Home, New
Glasgow for the wonderful care they provided Mom over the last five
years and also to Dr. Barclay and the staff at the Aberdeen Hospital
for their passionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will
be held at a later date in Church Brook Cemetery. Donations in her
memory may be made to the Little Harbour Presbyterian Church or a
charity of choice. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H. Porter
Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
