It is with profound sadness that we announce the last ride of Mr. Stephen ‘Steve’ Harold Metcalfe, who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family and beloved animals, after a very brief battle with brain cancer, on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at the age of 63 years. Steve was a humble man, who lived his life with integrity, always striving to do the right thing. He spent thirty-five years as a member of the RCMP, as a General Duty Constable in Alberta. He enjoyed posts in Hanna, Redwater, Fort Saskatchewan and Cardston Detachments. While in Fort Saskatchewan, Steve, together with his son Ben, owned Broken Motors Small Engine Shop; which Ben successfully ran for several years. In 2004, Steve transferred to a covert section of the RCMP in the Lower Mainland; where he was promoted to Corporal. He finished his career in 2015, as Corporal in charge of the Firearms Range at the Pacific Regional Training Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Retiring back to Alberta, Steve soon found out that full retirement was not for him; and he joined the Prairie Bus Lines family, as a School Bus Driver, then the Safety and Loss Prevention Supervisor. Steve loved working for Prairie and enjoyed the close family like atmosphere, remaining there until his passing. He loved life in the country; where he raised grass cattle each summer and rode great horses. An avid horseman, he spent years competing in Team Cattle Penning and Sorting Events. Steve’s last sorting competition was just a week before his passing, and he was able to ride with his wife, Alberta, his grandsons and many wonderful friends, one last time. He was a skilled marksman and firearms enthusiast, he enjoyed boating, hunting and golf when he wasn’t riding. Steve will be deeply missed by his loving wife of twenty-two years, Becky Metcalfe; his sons, Ben (Nicole) Metcalfe of Ontario and Daniel Brown of Edmonton; his daughters, Michelle (Joe) Brink of Spring Brook and Trudy (Kevin) Price of Kimberly, British Columbia and his grandchildren, Tucker (Sky), Kourtnie (Rachel), Randi, Natalie, Rene, Keaton, Colton, Ethan, Chloe, Maddi, Trista, Phillip, Owen, Evan, Connor and Hunter. He will also be sadly missed by his brothers, Larry (Fran) and Ken (Sherri) and his sister, Beth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many wonderful friends and a very large penning family. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Doris and Neil Metcalfe and his first good wife, Linda Metcalfe in 1995. He enjoyed time with family and good friends so much that he planned and attended his own Celebration of Life before he passed away. There will be no further services as per Steve’s wishes.
