Obituary
BORSOS, Steve
Steve passed away May 3, 2020 after a lengthy illness, in St. Paul’s Hospital. Steve leaves to mourn his wife of 60 years, Helen (nee Szunyik); daughter Elizabeth Pullan (John) and children, Sarah (Simon), and Nathan (Teresa) and their daughter Elora; son Steven (Kelly Porter); son Frank (Valerie) and children Christopher and Joel; 2 sisters in Hungary, Anna Kató (Antal) and, Erzsebét Halmosi and their families. Steve was predeceased by his parents Ambrus and Veronika (nee Erös) Borsos. He was also predeceased by his parents-in-law Josef and Helen (nee Kovacs) Szunyik.
Steve was born in Hungary in 1941. At the age of 16 he decided to move to Canada, by himself, to seek a better life. Steve initially landed in Montreal and arrived in Saskatoon in 1959. Steve first worked on the railway and in other labour jobs. By the early 60’s Steve started driving truck and continued with this until 2010. This work took Steve to places most of us have never seen. He travelled ice roads in the north and all corners of North America. In his last days he spoke daily with Steven who was also on the road. He would be sure to help with the best route to follow and where to find the best truck stops. No one in the family could take a road trip without confirming their route with Steve first.
Steve loved being at the lake. He and Helen took the family on many fishing trips to northern lakes. The family built a cabin at Chitek Lake and that Lake became a favourite spot for the next generation as well. Time at the lake was all about fishing.
Steve loved having his family around. Many dinners were had around the table with amazing meals made by Grandma. Steve was one of the best story tellers you would ever meet. He had a memory to share of places he had been and his many adventures. We heard stories of world travel, memories of being a refugee as a child in Hungary, experiences as a new Canadian and of course, fishing. Our last story shared with him was about the time he jumped over a boat while water skiing.
In his later years Steve spent his summers taking care of his garden and giving special attention to the tomatoes. The secrets of what made his tomatoes so delicious will leave with him. We know that he will be in his chair watching that his tomatoes are still up to his expectations.
No Funeral Service will be held. Arrangements in care of Aimé Laventure – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
