Stanley Cheesaquay
City Boy / Shoomis
May 13, 1952-April 7, 2020
It is with great sadness the family of Stanley Cheesaquay announce his passing after losing his battle with cancer. At the age of 67 years, Stanley passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on April 7th, 2020 at 2:00AM with the family by his side.
Stanley was born in Sioux Lookout on May 13, 1952. In his early childhood, he had lived along the CN Railroad settlements in Northwestern Ontario due to his father’s employment with CN Rail, he came to live with his Uncle John Nodin and Aunt Madeline in Mud River, Ontario, a place where he always considered home. Shortly after the passing of his father in 1957, Stanley moved to Winnipeg to live with his mother until 1969; after her untimely passing, he then relocated to Armstrong Station and reconnected with his maternal family, where one of his close cousins Howard, Richard, Francis, Alan, Douglas, Daniel gave him his nickname “City Boy”, a name which stuck to him throughout his life. Stanley spent the remainder of his days in Thunder Bay.
Throughout his lifetime Stanley had worked numerous jobs starting at a very young age. However, his main priority was ensuring he remained a constant figure in the lives of his children and grandchildren. Stanley had an extremely close bond with his youngest of three daughters; Jaclyn and her three children: Adam, Remmi and Theo Hubbard. Stanley was a soft-hearted, kind and gentle father who was known by the name Shoomis by all his grandchildren, a title he wore proudly. Holidays and birthdays were very important events to our Shoomis as these family gatherings became associated with bountiful noise, laughter, food AND love from his children and many grandchildren.
Stanley is survived by his children Adrian (Roberta), Melanie, Natalie, Jaclyn (Andrew), their Mother Patsy, 20 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his sisters; Edna, Jessie, Victoria, Yvonne and Margaret, his brothers; George and Raymond, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
Stanley was predeceased by his Mother Irene Wilson (Nodin) and Father Thaddeus Cheesaquay and special Uncle John Nodin
Viewing will be in Armstrong, Ontario on April 10, 2020 at Our Lady of Snows Church. Interment will follow in Mud River, Ontario on April 11, 2020.
