Obituary of Sophie Elgersman
ELGERSMAN, Sophie A. (nee Mantel)
On Saturday, December 26, 2020, at 90 years of age. In His infinite wisdom, the Lord
called Sophie Elgersman (nee Mantel) to her eternal Home. Born in the Netherlands to
Heert and Lina (nee Eifler) Mantel, she was a dear sister to the late Peter (Shirley)
Mantel, the late George (Sadie) Mantel, the late Bill (Mary) Mantel, the late Nellie
(Louie) Andree, Karl (Ann) Mantel, Lena (Ted) Sluys, and John (Wilma) Mantel. In
Ontario, she married the love of her life, the late Fred Elgersman (2001) and raised a
large family through faith, love, and hard work. Loving mother of Bill Elgersman,
Lynn (Chuck) Widdup, Randy (Alice) Elgersman, Joanne (Peter) Hogeterp, Steve
Elgersman, Pete (Diane) Elgersman, Janice (Mike Christensen) Elgersman, Sophie (Tim)
Otterman, Maureen (Christopher) Elgersman Lee, Carl (Sharon) Elgersman, John
(Laura) Elgersman, and Teresa Elgersman. Loving grandmother and great grandmother
to many across Canada and the United States. Thank you to Dr. Paul Medve and to the
staff of Parkview Meadows in Townsend for their care in her final days. A private
family ceremony will take place, with interment at Mount Zion Cemetery, Copetown,
Ontario. A celebration of life will follow in the future when conditions allow. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be sent to Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church, Jarvis, in
memory of Sophie Elgersman. Our thanks to the staff of Miller Funeral Chapel. “In My
Father’s house are many rooms” (John 14:2a)
