It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our sweet mother, Shirley Marie (Preston) Murphy who died peacefully on November 8, 2020 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. She was born in Halifax on September 7, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Mary and Gordon Preston. She married our dad Stephen in 1962, enjoying almost 51 years together until his passing in 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (John Chisholm) of Quispamsis, N.B.; her son, Michael (Cathy Johnson) of Bible Hill, N.S.; her brother Bill (Edna) of Mooseland, N.S. and her most cherished grandchildren Kathleen, William, Kaitlin, Laura and Allison. Mom will also be missed by her fur grandchildren, Unah and Theo, from whom she loved to have visit. Mom lived her life by example, demonstrating what it meant to be a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted daughter, wife and friend. She will be remembered for her love of a good laugh, her hospitality, advice on how to live life, and her love of being “On the Go”. Always known for “putting the flavour on a meal”, many enjoyed and were welcome to holiday gatherings, cottage cookups, birthdays or just Sunday dinners. No number was too large that “Just another potato in the pot” couldn’t resolve. Mike and I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mom’s extended family at Parkland at the Lakes, nursing staff on 3E and 5W at the Dartmouth General Hospital, Drs. Lee, Ferguson and Kells, and to her good friend Bob Fader with whom she enjoyed countless walks and drives. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private family Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 13th at St. Clement’s Catholic Church, with a private family interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation.
