La célébration de
Shirley Ann (Lowery) Moate
10 avril 1927 –

It is with sadness that the family announces the death of Shirley Ann (Lowery) Moate, at the age of 93 after a short illness.
Shirl was born and raised in the Philadelphia area, the only daughter of Dr. R. Paul Lowery and Anna J. Lowery. She attended the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr and then the University of Pennsylvania, from which she obtained her B.S. in 1950. As a social worker in Philadelphia she exhibited deep compassion as she helped others. She met Philip Eberhardt Moate at Lake Champlain, VT where both families had summer cottages. They were married in 1955, after which Shirl moved to Toronto where her two sons, Steven and Larry, were born and raised. She is survived by her husband Phil, and her sons. They each loved her dearly and will miss her. She is also lovingly remembered by the Vanderburgh family and by Judy Ludwig (considered by Shirl like a daughter) and her family, and by many friends. Shirl was a remarkable woman, of great intelligence, compassion, spirituality and independence. She had an inquiring mind and right up until the end was delving deep into the internet to read articles and books on an amazing range of subjects – she was curious about everything. She was fascinated by the world around her and by life in general. She made friends everywhere, including in the UK where the family lived for five years, as well as in Florida where she and Phil had a winter home for many years. She was consistent throughout her life in values that included a deep respect for all humans, regardless of their social standing or circumstances. She was a devout Christian, and her faith sustained her. She was a faithful member for many years of the Christadelphian Church. A private service has been held. The family requests no flowers or memorials, but encourages anyone to remember her by reaching out to those in need and by contributing to charities that are making a difference.
