Seymour St. Aubyn Allen was born February 10, 1949 at Sandy Bay, Hanover Jamaica.He passed away May 25, 2020 at Toronto, Ontario Canada.The youngest child of Lemuel Allen and Vida nee Alcock, Seymour is survived by wife Madge, children Nyree and Temi Tayo; also by sisters Inell, Venetta, Amanda and brother Albert.
He was preceeded by siblings Terrence, Merle, Noel and Selford.
He was a musician. A self taught guitarist, bassist and harmonica player. He is also a Songwriter, Poet, Singer, Performer and Essayist.He was schooled in Hanover where he attended Ruseas High and a part of the Dacosta Cup team for rural schoolboys . He passed the common entrance exam under the tutelage of school teacher Josephine Allen-Douglas
In his youth he performed in a band and solo performances. The band he performed with at the time was the opening act for Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.
After his conversion to the church he turned to bible teaching for many years and later to hymn and gospel song writing, recording and singing at Church. He attended Tyndale Seminary in Ontario as well as the University of Toronto. He studied as an undergrad at York University in business administration.
Seymour always loved music and art but chose music as his focus.
His first album “Songs in the Key of Joy” was recorded at Thunderdome Studio in 2014 with his associate jazz Pianist Eddie Bullen.
“He hoped both churched and unchurched unbelievers will (…) as they listen to the words of his songs; be led to Christ. That is his prayer.”
