Ryan’s Obituary
Ryan James Austin of Nampa, Alberta, formerly of Port Howe/Springhill,Nova Scotia will be sadly missed by his family and friends across Canada. Ryan passed away suddenly due to a tragic accident on September 7, 2020 at the age of 28, along with his beloved dog Callie. Ryan was born December 19th, 1991 in Amherst, Nova Scotia. He attended West Highlands Elementary before moving to Port Howe where he attended Pugwash High School/ Springhill High School and NSCC Cumberland Campus graduating in 2013. Ryan spent his weekends an vacations in Collingwood with his grandparents enjoying the great outdoors, especially with his grandfather Emerson Austin, affectionately known as Pa. Ryan was an amazing cook as everyone knows from back to his days of standing with his Nan at the kitchen table baking bread an cookies up until his new career as a chef (apprentice). Ryan loved Sandy Cove where he could run to his grandparents cottage from the house for a visit or to run the beach. Ryan worked very hard to support his family and was very popular on any crew due to his work ethic, huge smile and outgoing personality, which lead to his recent partnership and future career with Kalan Schmidt, at Tapas Room in Peace River, AB. Ryan will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Krista, stepson Parker, son Emerson and baby Charlotte, all at home. Ryan will also be fondly remembered by his mother, Cindy (Bill O’Neill); step brother Cody O’Neill (Bil Han Sasmita); step sister Lisa O’Neill; his father, Jason McBurnie (Mandy Reynolds); brothers, Micheal Tol (Loula Avagianou), Aidan McBurnie; sister, Brooklyn (whom Ryan called Brooke); his maternal grandmother Lavona Austin; his paternal grandparents, Mick and Rae McBurnie; his mother in law, Ronda; brother in laws, Jeremy and Mathew; sister in law Sydney; uncles, Chuck (Wendy) and Mitch (Kate); aunts, Tricia (Claudio), Keri (Darryl) and Marni (Amos); along with many cousins, extended family, many many many friends, his Nampa Family (Kim and Jim and many more). Ryan was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Emerson Austin; his paternal great grandparents, Merle and Leta McBurnie; his maternal great grandparents, Basil and Bette Casey; and also his life long best friend/brother Jordan Hyatt. Ryan will be laid to rest with his grandfather in Wyvren. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, October 17 in MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, 5075 Main Street, Oxford, followed immediately by a graveside service at 4 p.m. in Collingwood-Wyvern Cemetery.
