Obituary of Ruth Anne Innes
INNES: Ruth Anne (nee Leight) – In her 80th year, and with loving family at her side, Ruth Innes (nee Leight) peacefully earned her last feather for her special wings to heaven on January 12, 2020. She has been forever reunited with her best friend William (Bill) Innes (2010), the love of her life for 50 years. Not a day went by without Ruth speaking of him.
Born Ruth Anne Leight in Chatham on June 9, 1940 to Garfield and Pauline Leight; Ruth never hesitated to help someone — be they a family member, friend, or stranger — with their struggles. She was the best cook, and was always eager to make her opinion known on which seasonings were needed for which dish. She took pride in her work in floral design and arrangement.
She will be eternally loved and adored by her family, of which she was so very proud. Devoted mother to John Innes (Elizabeth) of Tilbury, loving daughter Virginia Jenner (Wayne) of LaSalle; and Bill Innes Jr. (Liessel) of Chatham. Beloved Grandma to Thomas and John James Innes; Joel Jenner (Kara), Jessica and Kara Jenner; and Yadell and Liessel Innes. Proud Great-Grandma (“G-G”) to Teagan Jenner.
Survived by sister Virginia McKinlay (Michael) of Trent Hills; brother-in-law Cameron Innes (Arlene) of Chatham; sister-in-law Patricia Leight of Chatham; and by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by brothers Ronald, Garfield Jr., and Jim Leight. Special thanks to the wonderful and supportive staff at Chateau Park for their invaluable care and compassion.
Per Ruth’s wishes, a private ceremony and interment will take place. To honour Ruth’s memory, her family asks that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation; or that you take a moment to visit someone at a long term care home.
