Our loving matriarch, Alice “Ruth” Workes of Taber, Alberta, passed into eternal rest in Taber on January 17th, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Ruth was born on July 21st,1928 in Vulcan, Alberta, the daughter of Lawrence and Alice Sanderson. Her family eventually moved to Brooks. After Ruth and Ford were married in April, 1949, she moved to Cassils, devoting her energy to the many duties of a farmer’s wife. Ruth was known for her hospitality in the community, and was ready to join in any event. She participated in registering voters and acted as a news correspondent for the community. Ruth and Ford participated in numerous bridge tournaments and that was the game of choice for weekly gatherings with friends. Ruth started working at the Brooks Savings and Credit Union, when there were just 2 employees, eventually outgrowing two buildings, before she retired. She loved any activity involving her family and friends and could often be found playing cards, knitting or working on Sudoku. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Ford, her sister Florence, two of her brothers Walter and Gordon and granddaughter, Nicole. She will be sorely missed and forever loved by her two children, Dixie (Winston) Seaman and Mario (Leanne) Workes; five grandchildren, Mel, Christine (Colin), Danielle (Corley), Michael (Brooke) and Tara (Tony); 11 great grandchildren, Alanna, Nolan, Kiersten, Katana, Camden, Bradlee, Matthew, Kaden, Caris, Zoey and Dylan; brother Robert (Helga); sisters-in-law Gail and Nadine and countless other family and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ruth’s life was held on Saturday, January 25th at 1:30 PM from Brooks Evangelical Free Church at 625 8th St. West, Brooks. Rev. Mike DeRidder officiating. Interment was held at Brooks Cemetery. In memory of Ruth, if friends desire, memorial tributes may be made to S.A.B.C. Box 99, Lomond, AB T0L 1G0 or at www.sabc.ca/donate.
