It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth (Guddi) Ramkuari Jittu. Ruth passed away peacefully at her home in Suncreek Village (Surrey) on Friday, September 11th, 2020. Ruth was born on September 29th, 1935 in Samabula, Fiji Islands to George Ram & Nibari Liberty Jittu.
She grew up in Fiji and qualified in Nursing and Obstetrics on March 31st, 1959. Ruth worked at the Colonial War Memorial Maternity Annex in the Antenatal & Casualty Wards. She also did many home deliveries and worked with Drs. Naga Sima & Jimmy Paretty. In 1962, Ruth moved to Sydney, Australia and in 1963, Adelaide, Australia where she trained in Midwifery and Infant Welfare.
In March 1968, Ruth came to Vancouver, BC, Canada where she worked as a nanny and a babysitter for a time. Later in 1968, she started working as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). From 1974 to 1995, Ruth worked in the Cancer Ward at VGH. She was one of the nurses that took care of Terry Fox during his first cancer fight.
After retiring in 1995, Ruth volunteered with many different organizations and seniors’ homes. In 2019, she made her home at Suncreek Village in Surrey, BC. We would like to especially thank the staff at Suncreek Village for their great care of Ruth.
Ruth will be missed for her big heart, her great sense of humour, love of pranks, and her incredibly strong faith in Jesus. She leaves behind a large family that mourns her and will feel her loss for a long time to come.
She is survived by four nephews and 5 nieces, including her Canadian family, James Raman (Matty), great nieces Michelle Snider (Wesley) & Camilla Bjurling (Patrick), and great nephew Shane Raman (Adam Dickson). She is also survived by her great-great nephew Liam Snider and great-great nieces Olivia Snider & Leiah Bjurling. She will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews throughout the United States, Fiji, Australia, & New Zealand.
In lieu of flowers we are asking that donations be made to CCFI Missions.
