Obituary of Russell Strong
Russ passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by the love of his family on July 20, 2020. Born in Midland, Ontario, on November 16, 1940, Russell William Strong of Owen Sound, formerly of Chesley, was in his 80th year.
Loving father of Craig Strong (Rebecca Evans) of Bowmanville, Shelley Strong (Amber Vee) of Owen Sound and Eron Strong (Ivonne) of Colombia. Cherished Grandpa of Tatiana, Sofia and Kindred. Dearly missed by his loving companion Ina Hopkins of Park Head, and her family. Also survived by his brothers Ronald Strong (Florence) of Annan, Almer Strong of Carrying Place and John Strong of Mississauga. Russ will also be missed by Nadine Scott of Yellowknife, Elaine Whitford of Midland and his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by his wife Diane (née Galloway) Strong (2008), his parents Clifton and Mabel (née St. Amant) Strong, brothers Ken Strong, Garry Strong (Vrenie), sister-in-law Beth Strong, and by his close friend Wendy Kielly.
Russ was a faithful member of the Bruce Trail Club, Chesley Rotary Club, the Owen Sound Square Dancing Club and the Collingwood Square Dancing Club. He was also a world traveler who enjoyed sailing, hiking, biking, canoeing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and wilderness tripping.
Cremation will be taking place and a public memorial visitation to celebrate Russ’ life will be held at the Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, 50 people will be allowed in the building at any given time, and visitors are asked to wear a mask and follow physical distancing rules. Private interment will take place in Chesley Cemetery at a later time.
