Obituary of Russel John Stoddart
STODDART, Russel John– age 73, of Stewiacke, passed away peacefully in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, March 9, 2020. Born in Shubenacadie, he was a son of the late Stanley and Louise (Barr) Stoddart.
Russel worked for MT&T for 30 years. He enjoyed playing fastpitch for the Lantz Blue Jays and the Brookfield Elks. One of the highlights in Russel’s life was playing for the King and His Court. Russel enjoyed playing hockey in his younger years and he always cheered for the Montreal Canadiens. In his retirement, he enjoyed puttering in his workshop. Russel spent 16 years as councillor for the Town of Stewiacke, which he really enjoyed. He was a dedicated volunteer for 50 years and was named volunteer of the year for the Town of Stewiacke.
Russel is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Aaron and Cara; grandchildren, Hayden (Maymie), Katelyn, Georgia; great grandchildren, Sierra and Selena; siblings, Bob (Diane), Marilyn, Ardith (Guy), Susan (Mike), Martin (Sue); mother-in-law, Ethel; brothers-in-law, Brian (Cheryl) and David; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Russel was predeceased by sister, Beverly.
Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. A visitation will take place 6-8pm, Friday March 13, at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie from where a Celebration of Life will be held 2pm Saturday, March 14. Rev. Martin Reid officiating, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Russel’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Shubenacadie United Church.
