Ronald Owen Whidden 1926 2020

Obituary of Ronald Owen Whidden
Age 94, of Halifax, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor.
Ronald was born in New Glasgow on May 19, 1926, where he lost his father, Charles, in an Allan Shaft cave-in at the age of four. When his older brother, Keith, went off to war he was forced to begin work. He joined the Air Force after the war where he finished his high school and developed a specialty in photography. He was involved in the mapping of the Canadian North, one of the last important assignments of the Lancasters. He devised new equipment for aerial photography, rising to the rank of Warrant Officer. He fondly recalled his service in Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Europe, and Africa. After retiring from the military, he pursued a career in photographic services in Toronto and Halifax until his late seventies. Irrepressible, he was loved by his family and admired by many for his good spirits, humor, his love of jazz, card games, golf (several trophies and a drive to be envied), baseball (Red Sox), football (Patriots), and hockey (Leafs). He loved his wife most of all.
Ronald was predeceased by his wife, Joan Celeste Currie. He is survived by his sons, David, Paul, Jamie, and Mark; as well as grandchildren, Alicia, Nile, Jem, Sami, Nathan, Madeleine; and great grandson, Wyatt.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting:
