Memorial Donation
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roland Swan, on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Roland was born in France on August 6, 1927 and moved to Holland at a young age until he immigrated to Canada in 1953. His first years in Canada were spent in Saskatchewan working on a farm, then in a mine near Kenora until he settled in Dryden. He was employed at the Dryden mill for 34 years and upon retiring in 1992 as Benefits Administrator, he enjoyed his home and yard at the lake.
In Roland’s younger years, he was involved with the development of the Dryden Ski Club and Dryden Yacht Club, two of his favourite hobbies. He was a dedicated Rotarian for many years and enjoyed the companionship of the members.
Roland’s greatest love was his family. He was fondly known as ‘Bada’ by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and even by their friends. He was grateful to have his loved ones nearby and enjoyed their daily visits.
Roland is survived by his wife, Edda; his daughter, Marlene Brown (Norman); grand-daughters Jessica Kivell (Drew) and Carly Brown (Jed); and great-grandsons, Spencer and Harris Kivell. He was predeceased by his son, Carl Swan in 1970.
As per Roland’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Family Service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dryden Entertainment Series or the Rotary Club of Dryden through Stevens Funeral Home P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON P8N 2Z1. Condolences may be posted at www.stevensfuneralhomes.ca
