Roger passed away peacefully at his Coquitlam home with three children at his side. He was born in
Yakima, Washington, in United States. He lived part of his life in Alberta, Washington, Spences Bridge,
Lytton, Terrace and Vancouver. He finally settled and lived at Coquitlam for many years.
Roger worked as a labourer, construction worker, an x-ray technician in Terrace. Later, while living in
Coquitlam, he trained and worked he as a Psychiatric Nurse at Forensic Facility formerly Riverview
Hospital at Coquitlam.
Roger began his early years of schooling at St. George’ Residential school from 1951- 1963 at Lytton. He
graduated with four (4) other students from Kumsheen Secondary School in 1963. He attended grade 13
in Kamloops. Roger enjoyed music in his early life and was an avid listener of all the 1950’s and 1960’s
music and fan of old movies. He enjoyed music and movies of all categories. Roger was creative in
Native Art and gave many of his own designs to friends and family. He spent his time with his son Luke
sharing his stories, music and movie time. He liked to discuss his deep knowledge of music, movies and
religion. He followed his spirituality to the very end of this life.
Roger is survived by his sisters: Maylie Podlasly, Lorraine Spence, Vera Massicotte and Louisa Celesta
(Eddie); daughters: Nadine Spence, Joanna McCarthy; Sons: Peter Spence and Luke Spence He also
leaves to cherish his memory his seven (7) grandchildren and four (4) great grand children, many nieces
and nephews, cousins, and numerous friends.
Roger is predeceased by his daughter: Leanne Spence; son: Joel Spence; paternal grandparents: Henry
Lulu and Katherine Spence; maternal grandparents: Lucy Albert and Joe Albert; mother: Eileen Spence
(Albert), father: Peter Spence; brothers: Allan Spence, Cyril Spence and Gary Spence.
