Obituary of Robert Cameron McRae
MCRAE, Robert Cameron
October 14, 1942 – November 4, 2020
Peacefully, with his loving wife Diana and son Rob by his side, and with daughter in-law Kasia and many others holding tight in spirit, our family announces the passing of Cam McRae in his 78th year.
Cam leaves behind his partner Diana (née Jacuzzi), son Rob, daughter in-law Kasia and her daughters Megan and Emily. Cam was a special brother to Lissa (John) Peck, kind brother in-law to Virginia (David, deceased) Burgess, Beverly (Bernie) Edgell, Lita (Joe) Gitt, Susan (Poul, deceased) Hansen, Paul (Rosie) Jacuzzi, and Virgil Jacuzzi Jr. (deceased), and a fine uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was a best friend to Paul (Jane) Davock. Cam was predeceased by his parents Robert and Alice McRae and Diana’s parents Virgil and Beulah Jacuzzi.
Born in Vancouver, Cam spent his early years moving across western Canada while his father served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. The family later settled in Toronto, where Cam attended Etobicoke Collegiate Institute. He met Diana at a church dance, and they have been inseparable ever since. Over 54 years of marriage they made a beautiful life together in the countryside near Waterloo and later in Kingston.
Cam was talented and caring, and he gave so much to so many. He taught psychology and communication studies at his alma mater Wilfrid Laurier University for over 25 years and had successful parallel careers as an automotive journalist and in the marine industry.
He was a loving husband and kind father and was beloved by his family and friends. Car racing was a passion, most recently with his 1959 Abarth as a member of the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada. Cam loved being out on the water and was an avid boater. He was a protector of animals and conservation of the natural world was very important to him. We will miss him more than words can express!
Our family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Providence Care Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kingston Humane Society and Nature Conservancy of Canada are appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Robert
