Robert Gerard ‘Darby’ Moore

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, brother, Cousin, Godfather and friend. Robert passed peacefully in the Cape Breton regional hospital in Sydney at the age of 65.
Robert grew up in Sydney Mines he was the son of the late Mary Rodina (MacKeigan) Moore and Sydney Russell ‘Darby’ Moore.
Robert worked for the Cape Breton regional school board for 35 years starting at Memorial as a security guard and lifeguard. He was also president of his union. He was a great mentor to youth through working at schools and coaching hockey in his younger years. He loved to play hockey and baseball. He finished his later years watching his grandsons play their sports with minimal coaching / yelling from the side lines.
Robert is survived by his two daughters Roberta Moore (Chris Lomax), Danielle Moore. He is also survived by three grandsons Brock and Josh Lomax and Jackson Moore.
Robert also leaves to mourn five sisters Rosemary (Lewis) King, Sharon MacKenzie, Maureen Moore, Elva MacKinnon Colleen Moore and one brother Kevin Moore (Brenda Churney). Robert is also survived by the mothers of his children, Stephanie ( MacLellan) Moore and Amanda ( Earle) Barker, along with long time past partners Cathy Hanrahan and Mag Gould. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Two stepsons Jacob and Dylan along with an honorary granddaughter Rylee.
Besides his parents Robert was predeceased by his brother-in-law Joseph McKinnon.
Robert’s family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Wawer and the staff at the Northside General Hospital. As well as the doctors and nurses of Cape Breton regional hospital. And Home Care along with all their staff members.
Visitation for the late Robert Moore will be held Thursday July 30th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm In the JM Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St. Sydney Mines. A Funeral mass celebrating his life will be held on Friday, July 31st at 11am at St Joseph Church, North Sydney with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating with burial in St Joseph cemetery, Sydney Mines. Please be aware that we will be abiding by Covid- 19 guidelines.
The family is asking in lieu of flowers to make a donation in Robert ‘Darby’s’ memory to a bursary in his name for graduating students of Memorial High School that will go to a student who pursues a career in the trades.
