Frederick Martin (Ricky) MacLellan
Sydney Mines
It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved Frederick Martin (Ricky) MacLellan. Ricky passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, after a short stay in the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines on the 28th of February 1959, he was the son of the late Charles and Agnes (Ford) MacLellan.
Ricky grew up in Sydney Mines along with his sisters, brothers, and his Mom. He attended Sydney Mines High and worked for several years as a taxi driver and an EMT for Clarke’s taxi and ambulance service. He went on to become a paramedic with EMC in Cape Breton.
During his training he was plagued by his health. He had to start treatment for his sudden kidney failure, but he still managed to graduate, despite all of that, from “Bill and Bud’s fine school of Paramedicine”.
In 1986 Ricky married the love of his life, Lisa MacLean. They went on to have a beautiful daughter Laura. She was his most special treasure.
Rick had to give up his calling as a Medic because of his health issues, but he continued to make the best of every day. Over the years, he had a passion for fishing. Most recently he could be found fishing up at the North Sydney wharf with his good friend, Tom White.
Ricky was predeceased by his parents, Charles, and his mother Agnes, his brother Daniel as well as his nephew Daniel, grandparents as well as several Aunts and Uncles.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Lisa and their daughter Laura.
Also left to mourn are his sisters Bonnie (Erin and Steve), Mary (Deanne, Brittany and Buck, Stephen and Lisa, Jon and Nicole), Darlene and husband Steve (Matthew, Jordan and Meghan, Taylor), his brother Spencer and wife Lynn (Alexa), his in-laws whom he loved, Les and Germaine MacLean, Charles and wife Anne, Elaine (Terry), Chris and wife Wendy (Olivia and Gracie), along with his special little buddy, his dog Zoey.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home.
There will be a celebration of Ricky’s life, along with a graveside service, to be held at a later date.
Lisa, Laura, and the family would like to thank the staff of the ICU at the CBRH, as well as staff in the Dialysis units at the CBRH and the Northside General Hospital, along with Ricky’s Family Physician, Dr Andrew Wawer.
Donations in Ricky’s name may be made to the Kidney foundation of Nova Scotia. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
“We hold you close within our hearts and there you shall remain…To walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again.”
Rest easy Ricky, we’ll take it from here.
