Rev Peter John William Turpin Friday November 20th 2020 avis de deces

The Turpin family wish to announce the departure of Rev. Peter John William Turpin on November 20th 2020 from this life to life eternal. He so longed to be there to praise his Lord and Savior and to see Him face to face.
Peter was born in Southampton, England on March 9th 1935 to Herbert and Rose (Meek) Turpin. During the war years, he was evacuated to various locations in the West Country. In his youth, he was a skilled cricket and soccer player and often took his younger brother in his stroller to watch his games. Over the years, they enjoyed singing and were often heard laughing together over a joke. He also enjoyed playing the Big Bass Drum in the Boy’s Brigade and worked at Mr Underwood’s bacon stall at the Markland Open-Air Market before serving 2 years in the RAF (Royal Air Force). He met Bettina (Tina) at church and continued to court her while attending Rawdon College to study Theology. They married at Cowes Baptist Church, Isle of Wight on July 6th 1960 and shortly after he began his ministry in Frithelstock, Devon. Five years later, following the birth of their 3 older children, they moved to Stapleford, Nottingham where their fourth child was born. Peter pastored a church there for 12 years and established it on New Testament principles. The Lord brought him and his family to Overton, NS in 1978 where he ministered until his retirement. He continued to preach at various churches in the Yarmouth area until his health began to decline. He loved to create witty puns and write poetry especially for family occasions. Much of his spare time was spent reading or searching for good spiritual books. In 2020, Tina and Peter enjoyed a beautiful summer afternoon celebrating their 60th anniversary with their 4 children, many of their 14 grandchildren and their 5 great-grand children.
Dad’s biggest concern in life was his relationship with God, and that others would fellowship with God too. His last message was “I must have Jesus, and you must have Jesus … do you hear? … do you hear!” …and then he drifted off into prayer, praying for you.
Peter will be remembered as a wonderful husband and father and is survived by his loving wife, Tina (Salter); children, Tim (Karen), Overton; John (Cathy), Chebogue; Ruth (Danny), Chebogue Pt.; Rachel, Chebogue; grandchildren, James (Sarah), Andrew (Allison), Sam, David, Mel (Eric), Jen, Beth, Marc, Steven (Mariah), Mike (Lacy),Bettina (Corey), Ben (Naomi), Jacob, Greg; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Connor, Lily, Martis, Ryker; his loving brother, Ted, and many extended family members in the UK.
Public visitation will be held on Monday, November 23rd from 6-8 pm at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral service will be held Tuesday November 24th at 2 pm with a maximum of 100 attendees. For those who are unable to attend , the service will be live-streamed on Sweeny’s website. In accordance with Covid regulations, face masks are required and there will be no reception at this time. A private family interment will be held in Cheggogin following the service. Donations in Peter’s memory can be made to Faith Memorial Baptist Church, Overton. Family flowers only.
