Obituary
It is with great sadness and aching hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, nonno, brother, zio, cousin and friend. Renzo Crosetta passed away peacefully in his home surrounded and supported by his loving family on June 27, 2020.
Renzo was born in Castelfranco, Veneto, Italy on October 30, 1937.
He is predeceased by his parents Luigi and Maria Crosetta of Italy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Del; adoring children Lori Walker (Jeff), Dino (Dianne), Lisa Stuckless (Sean) and De (Jodi); his beloved grandchildren Rayne, Ryan, Carter, Nikki, Ethan, Griffin, Paxton and Ella; his brother Giocondo, sister-in-law Flavia and sister Gianinna (Mario) of Italy; special cousins, Diane (Tony), Isabelle (Alessandro) of Montreal, Sophie of Melbourne, Australia and Roy (Kathy), Angela (Justin), Teresa (Jacob) and Anthony of the USA; dear brother-in-law of Delores – deceased, Evan (Marlene), Eric – deceased, Clarice (Ron), Eddie (Helen – deceased), Dinty, Ron – deceased (Judy), Adwina (Paul), Rick (Jackie), Nita, Noreen, and Glen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
At the age of 19, he left his homeland Italy in pursuit of a better life in Canada. After establishing a job with Ontario Hydro in construction, he met the love of his life Del. They married and started their family in Kapuskasing. His work took him to Courtright and then onto Port Elgin where they completed their family.
In Port Elgin, Renzo and Del built their own home which has been filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories for the last 48 years. Renzo’s hands were never idle and he rarely sat still, he was always busy doing something. He took great pride in his gardening, cooking, winemaking and maintaining his home.
In addition to building their home in Port Elgin, they also used their ingenuity and elbow grease to create their seasonal home on Wolfe Lake. They purchased a parcel of land and a small cottage that they had dragged across the frozen lake in the winter to form the base of the Crosetta cottage. Over time, they added on with a lot of sweat, tears and pure determination to create their little haven.
A few weeks before his passing, we took him to the cottage for a short visit to his happy place, knowing that he would find peace. He enjoyed that weekend away….you could just see it in his eyes. While resting on the deck looking out to the lake in front of him, listening to the birds chirping, and taking in the warm sunshine he kept asking our mom all weekend if it was real. He found it so beautiful there.
Renzo always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, and when possible, a glass of wine in his hand. His greatest devotion was his family. We grew up knowing that we were loved and that he would be there for us unconditionally. In later years, nothing made him happier than a visit from his children and grandchildren and days and evenings we spent all together.
He was a good man with a big heart, an honest genuine person who valued the truly important things in life. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Grey Bruce Health Services – Owen Sound & Southampton Hospitals, Dr. David Billings, Dr. Indermohan Sandhu, Dr. Andrew Jeffrey, Dr. Kelly Fenn, and CarePartners – Nurses & PSWs , Rev.
