Obituary of Raymond Otto Boyd
RAYMOND BOYD
FEBRUARY 29, 1932 – NOVEMBER 14, 2020
It is with immeasurable grief, but equally deep gratitude to have been blessed by the presence of this gentle, kind, talented and loving man, that we announce the peaceful passing of Raymond Boyd, aged 88,in the loving presence of his family, on Saturday, November 14, 2020, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital. Ray was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Boyd, his parents Janet and Ernest Boyd, his sister Mona Boyd Wheeler, and his brother Bruce Boyd, and numerous members of the Boyd and Hickey families. Ray was a devoted family man, and he will be forever missed by his sons Roger (Donna), John (Cathy) ; beloved grandchildren, Sean (Angela), Kayla (Leslie), Erica (Steve), and Stephen (Erika); his precious great-grandchildren, Cole, Mason, and Charlea; his dear companion, Phyllis Penney, his special great-nephew, Liam, his curmudgeonly feline buddy, Kiki, and many other relatives and life-long friends.
Ray was a man who lifted up all lucky enough to know him. He was a career “railroad man”, and worked for 34 years for CN, a career that culminated in Ray having the honour of sitting in the engineer’s seat to bring the last train in Newfoundland to the station. He was a talented carpenter who built his own home, which he continued to derive great comfort from until his passing. He was a gifted singer and loved music. He was unassuming and humble, and befriended all who crossed his path. Ray was the type of person who simply made everyone fortunate enough to know him, breathe just a little easier, as he spread compassion to all. He judged none, and was a warm and hospitable presence who provided safe harbour for many. But above all else, he was a devoted, patient, and warm-hearted family man who lived for the success and happiness of his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed countless hours with them.
Ray’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff of WMRH’s Emergency and ICU Departments for their kindness, expertise and care, as well as the care of the staff of the Fourth Floor.
As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Railway Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, P.O. Box 673, Corner Brook, NL, A2H 6G1. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A family celebration of Ray’s life will take place at a later date, in compliance with Covid19 Government of NL regulations.
After many adventures and journeys, the train has pulled into the station for the final time, and the engineer is at rest after a job well done. We will never forget you, Pop.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Raymond
