Ralph Joseph Amirault

AMIRAULT, Ralph – Age 68 of Meteghan Centre, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Meteghan Centre, he was a son of the late Victor and Antoinette (Comeau) Amirault. Ralph was a fisherman for 50 years in the lobster, scallop and fish dragging sectors. He was the youngest captain on a scallop boat. He became the first captain of the fish dragger Venture 2000 and remained in that position until his retirement in December 2014. The Venture 2000 was built in 1998 for BCD Fisheries, Little Brook, in which at the time Ralph was part owner of the company. He enjoyed deer hunting with his best friend, Victor, and also his daily trip to the Meteghan wharf to chat. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 47 years, Simone of Meteghan Centre; son, Daniel (Suzanne); daughter, Nicole (Cleveland); sister Linda Saulnier; grandchildren, Emily, Bria, Ella, Lucas. His grandchildren, which he loved so much, brought him a lot of joy in his life. He also leaves behind aunts, a niece, nephew and cousins. He was predeceased by sisters, Mariette Amirault and Anna Saulnier. Cremation has taken place under the care of Meteghan Funeral Home. Funeral mass will take place Thursday, March 5 at 11 a.m. in Stella Maris Church, Meteghan, officiated by Rev. Albeni d’Entremont. Interment will take place in parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jacky Comeau & Friends Cancer Help Fund Association or Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
