Ralph Frederick “Cheetah” Malin
1949-2020
Ralph Frederick “Cheetah” Malin –
age 71, of Berwick, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2020, in the
Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born October 28, 1949 in
Kentville, he was a son of the late Francis and Lillian (Spencer)
Malin. Cheetah enjoyed sports, and as a youth, swam for the
Kentville diving and swim team, competing through Canada and the USA
holding the title of Nova Scotia Junior Champion. Anyone that knew
Cheetah knew that his first love was fishing. When April 1st
came, you would find him on the riverbank and every Mother’s
Day, he presented his mother with a prize fish. He continued
fishing right up until his passing. Cheetah worked for many years on
the Irving Oil tankers, which took him all over the world.
After leaving the ships, he trained in food services and went to work
at Grandview Manor. He enjoyed the many residents and staff that
befriended him and retired after 21 years of service. He is survived
by daughters, Mary Elizabeth Hoben (Jon Boutet-Gadoury), Quebec City,
Katie Walsh (Mike Vaughan), Waterville; grandchildren, Nathalia
Melançon, Colorado, Dominic Melançon, Montreal,
Sasha Houde, Quebec City; Hunter Vaughan and Ficher Vaughan, both of
Waterville; sisters, Lorna Malin (Bradford Graves), Meadowview; Laura
Cochrane, Wolfville; Lillian (Gerald) Schofield, Kentville; Dorothy
Martin, Oromocto, NB; brother, Francis “Sparky”
(Judy), Lower Sackville; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents,
he was predeceased by brothers, Thomas “Tom” and
Albert. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private graveside
service held in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. A webcast of the
service will be available at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020,
by visiting www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com. The family wishes to thank
the Medical A Unit of the Valley Regional Hospital for the kindness,
care and compassion shown during this difficult time. Donations in
memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
