Obituary of Peter Joseph Lytle
Affectionately known over the years as Pete, Pops, Pa, Papa and Peckerhead.
Passed away peacefully at his Kingston home on Saturday, September 12, 2020 with his loving wife Patricia by his side. Peter and Pat met in 1962 via friends set-up. Marriage followed in 1966. They had previously resided in Belleville, Frankford and Toronto. They did EVERYTHING together, which was a testament to their love and support of each other. Oh sure, Pete snuck off to the casino on occasion for one of his legendary 8 hour shifts, but he cared beyond words for Pat. The only thing they could never get right together were the hospital stays!
Predeceased by parents Tom and Marjorie and sister Lynn (Don). He was very proud of his wife Patricia, sons Alan (Sara) and Paul and grandchildren Taylor, Tristan and Paige who will deeply miss him, along with siblings John (Chris), Mike, Karen (Rick), brother-in-law David and sister-“out”-law Wendy, numerous nieces and nephews, grand nephews, grand nieces and many friends.
Papa absolutely cherished, adored and loved his grandchildren Taylor, Tristan, Paige and Stephanie (parents Tracy and Steve). He couldn’t be more proud of who they were becoming and what they’ve achieved so far in their young lives. Many sleepovers took place at Papa and Grandma’s out of pure love and adoration. Those bonds that were created will live on forever.
Peter battled and persevered through numerous health issues over the past few years and finally had enough. With his knees challenging Bobby Orr for most surgeries, and his heart working overtime on such little power, he always kept his wit whomever he was around. Peter hated being hospitalized when necessary, but he loved the nursing teams at KGH who cared for him and always had a quip to make their day a little brighter. Dad was one tough and stubborn S.O.B who was a committed and hard working employee. Although his work ravaged his body over time, he loved his job and the people he worked with and for.
There were many enjoyments Peter found throughout life. Whether it was his passion for horse racing, golf, socializing with friends, road trips, the Leafs, bowling, all the four-legged family members or the occasional tussle with a One-armed bandit (wink wink), he always had a grin on his face (well, maybe not for the Leafs lately). Those who entertained Pete and Pat knew to keep a full pepper mill nearby and make sure the soup was piping hot. He wouldn’t have it any other way.
We will proudly share and reminisce memories of Peter, for there are many entertaining and good ones. Just ask about the 3am turkey drop off.
No service upon request. Peter was a humble fella who never wanted any attention. Interment of cremated remains to take place at Belleville Cemetary in the near future with immediate family. Donations in Peter’s memory made to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation would be appreciated.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Peter Joseph Lytle 2020..
