Obituary
Surrounded by his loving family, Paul Joseph Daigle, husband of Shirley Ann (Wallace) Daigle passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
Born in St. Charles, NB on February 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Mathias and Leonie Daigle.
Paul moved to Saint John when he was a teenager, and had to learn how to speak English. He worked hard to become a pipe fitter and had a career for 34 years working at the Irving Pulp and Paper, retiring in 2002.
Paul’s faith was very important to him and was a faithful parishioner of Holy Spirit Parish, where he tried to attend mass daily, and only missed if his health did not allow him to. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus River Valley Council # 9176. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years; in recent years he enjoyed playing crib, 45’s, playing his guitar, listening to the Sunday night country jamboree, and watching wrestling with his best friend Mary Rose.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Shirley Ann, he is survived by his adoring daughter Mary Rose Daigle; his son of whom he was so proud, Paul Daigle (Bill Sampson), cherished granddaughter Julia Daigle; beloved brothers Leo Daigle (Kelly) and Gerry Daigle (Ginette); canine companions Nyla and Molly; and extended Wallace and Daigle families.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses in the SICU for their wonderful care and compassion.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424), with visitation on Sunday, February 9 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Holy Spirit Parish (St. Matthews Worship Site) on Monday, February 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. The Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Interment will take place in St. Augustine’s Cemetery in the spring. Remembrances in memory of Paul may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or perform an act of kindness in his memory.
