Patrick O’Leary
1937-2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our
beloved father, Patrick Joseph O’Leary of Riverview, New Brunswick on
Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home at the age
of 83.
Loving and devoted husband to his wife of 60 years, Sandra
(nee Blois) O’Leary. Cherished father to his children Leslie O’Leary,
of Calgary; Paul (Lori) of Toronto and Steven (Kathy) of Riverview.
Dear brother of Alban and sisters Eleanor and Carol. Proud grandfather
of Sarah, Patrick, Bridgit and Owen, and great-grandson, Lucas. Pat
was predeceased by his parents William and Anna (nee Breen), and
brothers Victor, Martin, Harold and sisters, Mary and
Maureen. Pat will also be fondly remembered by his extended
O’Leary and Blois families, and his many nieces and
nephews.
Born and raised in Saint John, Pat’s good nature and a great
sense of humour earned him many life-long friends. He was a wonderful
story-teller who could often be found sharing tales of his childhood
as well as his time in the far North and Newfoundland with family and
friends.
Pat was a great aviation enthusiast, loved spy novels, ham
radios, and playing a good ole fashion round of cards with friends and
family. He also enjoyed spending time in his workshop and left behind
heirlooms that will continue to be cherished. He developed a love of
sports in his early years at St. Malachy’s High School. He went on to
share that love with the community as a coach and volunteer with the
Riverview Minor Hockey Association. As a fan, he encouraged and
cheered on family in a wide range of athletic pursuits. He was a Scout
leader, a member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club, the St. John
the Baptist Anglican Church Men’s Club, and Treasurer of the local
Parkinson’s Society chapter. He rarely missed his morning coffee with
friends at McDonald’s, and always enjoyed the camaraderie
that came with his weekly Friday lunches at the Chris Rock. He was
passionate about his work with Transport Canada where he was employed
for over 35 years. Following retirement, Pat and his wife, Sandra,
enjoyed travel and many other activities, but mostly those that
included their family and close circle of friends.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, funeral services and
celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are
entrusted to Cobb’s Funeral Home, 330 Whitepine Road Riverview
(869-2007). In lieu of flowers, donations in Patrick’s memory may be
made to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada.
