Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nick Scholotiuk on June 3, 2020 at the age of 95 years.
Nick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of almost 66 years Audrey, his two children Alan (Pamela) and Gord (Adele), his four grandchildren Elaine (Blake) Buschau, Richard (Kelly), Nicholas (Debrah), Andrew (Breanna), two stepgrandchildren Katherine (Jim), Nanette (Mark), four great grandchildren Decklan and Keira Scholotiuk, Colby and Cailee Buschau, three step great grandchildren Kyla, Gavin and Matthew. Nick also leaves behind his sister Doris Alexandriuk, brother-in-law Gary (Edythe) Frohlich, two sisters-in-law Olga Socholotuik, Frances Winczura and and numerous nephews and nieces.
Nick was born in Smoky Lake, Alberta, the third eldest in a family of six brothers and two sisters. After completing his schooling, Nick worked at various farm jobs and at the age of 18 years, enlisted in the Canadian Army. After his discharge in 1946, Nick resumed civilian life and worked in logging camps, worked as a painter, dairy delivery driver and then went into carpentry.
In 1954 he married Audrey and together they had two sons.
As a carpenter, he worked on various projects which included civil and municipal buildings in the northen half of Alberta. As time went on, Nick moved into superintendent positions until his retirement. He was very proud of the various projects that he worked on.
Throughout his life, Nick kept busy with various projects and he alway enjoyed helping others with renovations, building cabins, garden sheds and completing renovation projects at home. He was also a passionate crib player and enjoyed bowling and floor curling.
Nick was especially proud of his family and took special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Visits were always extra special to him and his eyes would light up everytime. At times, he would be seen down on the living room carpet or in the backyard involved in whatever activity the grandchildren or great grandchildren were doing.
The family would like to thank the staff at Summerwood Village and Chartwell Emerald Hills in Sherwood Park for their professional and compassionate care of Nick.
Cremation has taken place and as per Nick’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
